Dealing With Cancer and Amputation

Hi all,

I'm new here. I guess I'm new to cancer and even newer to amputation. I was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma in my left knee on the 25th of September, 2013 and I had my left leg amputated above the knee on the 11th of October, 2013.

I wrote a blog about my experience which went a little bit viral. Basically I wrote a break up letter to my leg. It was a bit emotional, a bit funny and a bit therapeutic. I explained my decision so that other people could understand it. I am a father to a 9 month old daughter and I am set to be married in February next year, so I have a lot to live for.

You can read about it all on my blog, here:

How are you coping with your cancer journey and/or amputation?

Are you trying to decide between amputation and other, less drastic types of treatment?

I'd love to hear from some people in similar situations.

That's what I call a good spirit :-) Are you going to be fitted with a prosthetic leg? For transfemoral amputation it looks like a lot of people use crutches instead. But the problem with crutches is that you can't carry a baby (or may be you can if you hop?) :-( Actually even with a prosthetic leg it takes a while to be comfortable enough to do that. I had my amputation when my son was a baby. He started to walk after my amputation but quickly walked faster than me. I had to use a leash on him :-(

You made the right decision. My son waited too long to amputate but when he did, he snow boarded three months later on his prosthetic. Pray much and eat only organic. Also if your prosthetic slips due too sweating they can give you a botox shot to help. No chemo or radiation they don 't work. God Bless.
