Gemcitabine and docetaxel question

Just curious if anyone has been told that some patients have responded extremely well to Gemcitabine and docetaxel? My doctor said he was aware of cases of SS that had a complete response on the combination? Has anyone else heard of this great an outcome? Are there any documented cases? I'm curious if there is any truth to this or if my doctor is just winding me up?

In the following study

"Phase II study of weekly docetaxel and fixed dose rate gemcitabine in patients with previously treated advanced soft tissue and bone sarcoma", there were 2 patients with synovial sarcoma. One had stable disease, the other progressive disease.

This is the only study for which I have a full article.

From a pubmed search with keywords synovial sarcoma and gemcitabine, docetaxel, only one relevant study comes up:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19727011

Some kids had complete response but I assume they were the ones with Ewing sarcoma. Unfortunately, I do not have the full article for this study.

Of the many people I met with synovial sarcoma who received this drug combination, none had a complete response. Some did get stable disease for a couple months.

I have leïomyosarcoma with mets in the lungs. I have been treated with Gemcitabine, and my scan was clean after 2x8 sessions. Infortunately, I had very important neutropenias, and I could not go on - so my mets went back.

I think your doctor is not lying to you, and you'll have benefit in having this treatment.

Good luck for you !

I havent heard of these but i will be takin notes of them, according to the docs that we have spoken to chemo works in 1 out of every 4 patience so i think anything is worth a go if it gives you a chance of life. Best of luck and let us no how you get on x

Oh, I don't think my Dr. is lying to me, but I'm just trying to sort out what my best options may be. This combination just seems either too good or just another shot in the dark. I'm trying to sort out any allegorical information if anyone has any. But really, I've heard of more cases that it didn't work for than those that it did work for.

My wife took 3 cycles of the combo but scans detected no response unfortunately but every case is unique and really hope it works for you. Good luck and stay strong.

Thanks for your responses; currently I'm on a trial, but if I do get on this combination, I'll be sure to post how I do with it.

I did 6 cycles of it after my surgery to remove my SS tumor. I'm still in remission, but I have no way of knowing if gemzar/taxotere helped. My 3 week cycle was like this:

Week 1: gemzar on Tuesday. Feel like crap on Saturday and Sunday.

Week 2: gemzar/taxotere on Tuesday. Neulasta on Wednesday. Nerve pain on Thursday. Feel like crap on Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

Week 3: off.

repeat 6 times.

I lost most of my hair, and I had low white cell counts (which is why I got the neulasta). I also had low red blood cell counts a couple of times. They gave me procrit.

My last treatment was July 10. I still don't have all of my hair back. But I'm still in remission, so I'll manage a little baldness.

Hello Adam,

Could you please say me what is your trial with ?

Thanks.

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01515306 is the trial I'm on. I'm only into it 1 month, I don't have new scans yet, so I can't say whether it's working or not...

Also, if anyone wants more details I try to give decent details about how I progress and do as I go through this battle in my blog: http://adamsbulletinboard.blogspot.com/
