Hi just wondering if anyone has heard of this test or company and maybe used it? Also any thoughts?
It does sound very useful. Thanks!
Maybe. Onocofocus is an Irish company offering what is called somatic testing which being used by virtually every cancer center in the US. However the types of cancer it useful for is limited to:
Breast cancer (excluding ductal carcinoma in situ [DCIS] of the breast)
Colorectal cancer
Esophageal cancer
Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST)
Glioblastoma multiforme
Lung cancer
Leukemias/Lymphomas
Melanoma
Thyroid Carcinoma
Other hematololgical malignancies, lymphoproliferative disorders, and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative conditions
The list expands as new treatments are developed.

They are using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to profile tumors. It’s similar to what Foundation Medicine is doing. MSKCC and MD Anderson had clinical trials for sarcoma using NGS to match patients to targeted therapies.
Here are the study results from MD Anderson:
There were 4 patients with synovial sarcoma. One of these patients had an actionable mutation but did not get treated with targeted therapy.
The results from MSKCC are here:
http://www.cbioportal.org/study?id=msk_impact_2017#summary
If you click on “Soft tissue sarcoma” as “cancer type” and then on “Synovial sarcoma” as “cancer type detailed”, you will be able to see the details of the 34 patients with synovial sarcoma. Overall, they had few mutations if any (other than the fusion gene). It’s not clear if any of the 34 patients received targeted therapy as a result of the test.
My guess is that most synovial sarcoma patients are unlikely to benefit from this type of test but some may. It’s another big lottery!
Thanks for the info Elodie much appreciated!
