S*BIO Initiates Canadian Phase 2 Clinical Trial of Oral HDAC inhibitor SB939

This should be an interesting clinical trial to follow considering the fact that in cellular and preclinical models, HDAC inhibitors have been shown to inhibit synovial sarcoma growth…

Here is for the study recruitment details for sarcoma:

Here is an article about the results of the phase 1 trial for patients with advanced hematologic malignancies:

Has anyone here been on this trial? According to the write up they aren't accepting patients anymore, the trial is scheduled to wrap up this June.

I'm curious if anyone can comment on if it worked for them? Thank you.

I am wondering about this too. Khoolhandz tried to get on this trial and he was told at the time (in January 2011) that they were not recruiting for synovial sarcoma yet, only for prostate cancer. He was on the waiting list for it but they didn't get back to him before he passed away in the summer of last year... Charbonnel tried to get on an another HDAC inhibitor trial in France and he also couldn't. So I am honestly wondering whether they ever recruited synovial sarcoma patients for HDAC inhibitor trials and whether it has something to do with the fact there is a Japanese patent for treatment of sarcoma with HDAC inhibitors:

Interesting and frustrating... I had my doctor send up a referral for me to British Columbia Cancer Agency, but they told him the trial is closed. That seems consistent with the trial scheduling, but he also indicated that the company was having "financial problems." I don't know if that will prevent them from pursuing Phase III trials? Still would be nice to hear from anyone if HDAC inhibitors have been at all effective?

Also, would a US patent prevent HDAC inhibitor development outside the US?

Indeed I just got a confirmation that the trial closed because the pharmaceutical partner ceased drug production; results from patients accrued prior to this are under evaluation...

Dang. The pharmaceutical company is in Singapore, so probably affected by the floods. Those results would be very interesting though.
