I have completed six cycles of chemo with Yondelis, disease was stable up to four cycles however it stopped working after six cycles. Now Doctor has suggested me four options-
1) Liposomal Doxorubicin (First Choice)
2)Vinorelbine
3)Dacarbazine
4)Pazopanib(Votrient)
Has anybody taken any of the above medicines Or can anybody suggest best option after Yondelis?
It may be noted that I have already taken six cycles of chemo with Doxorubicin and Ifosfamide and diseases was responsive to these medicines.
Do you know the name of the liposomal doxorubicin? Is it doxil or myocet? Doxil is less cardiotoxic than doxorubicin but it mostly concentrates in the skin. Efficiency may depend on location and characteristics of tumor. Myocet is also less cardiotoxic than doxorubicin. It is not yet approved in the US. A phase I trial was completed:
It's been commonly used in combination with other drugs in the past.It's odd that it is only tried now on its own.
Many people are taking votrient nowadays because the drug was recently approved for sarcoma. You can find a lot of information about it in the discussions section of this website.
My husband used votrient for a short time and had hugely horrible side effects including tumor bleeds, one in his spleen and one in his brain. I have heard it has been successful for others but it was probably the worst drug he was on.
My son did very well on Votrient for about 5-6 months which worked for that time and then stopped working-or at least stopped making any changes.. Then he went off of it to cleans for a clinical trial. Now he is on it for a short burst while waiting to get into the Adoptive Immunotherapy clinical trial in Bethesda, MD. My son had some unusual side effects: weight gain, white hair (he is 26 years old), white skin which burned very easily (he has scars from burning) and vomiting (of course). He also experienced aches and pains in his bones and joints.
