Whole brain radiation

If anyone knows anything or has any information about "whole brain radiation" and the after affects , please let me know !

Are you talking about gamma knife?

my husband initally had focused brain radiation on one brain met, but when two more tumors developed we opted for whole brain radiation instead, with the hopes of eliminating any cancer cells in his brain for good. He did whole brain radiation two years ago, and "knock on wood" he hasn't had any new brain mets. He has seem only minor cognitive changes due to the whole brain radiation, that only he can really notice. He sometimes has trouble remembering things, not events or things of his past, but more like things on a to-do list or grocery list, which doesn't really effect him. He also has a slightly more difficult time concentrating on things, or concentrating on more than one thing at a time, but again it doesn't really effect him that much where he gets bothered or stressed by it. He is only two years out, but so far we are happy with our decision to do whole brain radiation. We also had an amazing radiation oncologist at Sloan Kettering, named Dr. Suzanne Wolden, whom I would highly recommend. Good luck to you!

Thanks for sharing Nell! Hopefully others can help with info!

Thank you for your sharing... Sounds like your hubby got through the radiation OK.. We are only in the informal stage of discussing the option with the doctors at the momment, my daughter is scared.. 19 yrs old, and has been dealing with synovial now for three years... No--- Whole brain or full brain radiation-- Gamma knife is new in Australia.. So far the hospital have given my daughter two options. 1. whole brain etc or 2. wait and monitor. then attack with gamma knife... CC is 19..

I will send prayers to your daughter!! I have been fighting this for 4 years and it has appeared in 5 areas. You can only do full brain once. I have had to have brain surgery 1 time and gamma knife 2 times. Gamma knife can be done numerous times but full brain only once it’s to risky they will not do it here in Washington state :frowning:
