My treatment so far

I hadn't realized that I've been rather tardy on updating my treatment diary on this page.... so here goes.

I went to see the consultant on the Thursday 13th October and she was very nice and explained everything that was going to be happening. after a little bit shuffling around they managed to get me in to have my PICC line put in. only to find out that there wasn't a bed for me available that afternoon on the Oncology ward... after some deliberation I decided that I would stay in the hospitals hostel accommodation rather than going home to the kids. The PICC line unfortunately leaked and I ended up being admitted to the ward through the emergency department. Not the best of starts to get my treatment under way, but started nether the less.

I was to have 2 - 3 Chemo treatments of Ifos Dox and Mesena over 72 hours every 2 1/2 weeks. Unfortunately it didn't seem to be doing much so they decided that 5 - 6 treatments would be better. after 5 treatments and several CT and MRI scans the tumor was neither no smaller or bigger. not really what I was hoping for.and this apart from loosing my hair this was the lowest that I have been.

Following the Chemo I was then scheduled to have 5 weeks of Radiotherapy. every day... driving 40 miles there, then waiting for the appointment and then back home again was hard work, but the time flew and before I new it it was over. The 14th March was the last treatment and i am now 4 weeks post treatment and due to go for a scan on Friday next week. My leg is getting quiet stiff and red now and a little itchy, but has really held out well considering what it has been going through.

I will be seeing the consultant again on Thurs 19th April and will be finding out what the results are and what the surgeons are thinking of doing........ Fingers crossed it's all good news :)

I am assuming surgery is the next step? Good luck and keep us updated!

I found chemo a really tough procedure and radiation tiring. I also had radiation before surgery. Although chemo after. Well done for getting through.

Crossing everything for you Jules... Its a long hard road your on.. sending love and support <3

So here I sit ..... in my hospital room waiting to go down to theater for my surgery. the results from the scans were that it had got a little smaller but not much but the tumor is now all soft and squishy. the appointment came through on Friday last week, and had to be here yesterday so not much time to organise myself and my kids. but also not time to think about anything that's happening either.

Not much more that I can add as I still will not know what the outcome will be until i awake from surgery.

Smaller, soft and squishy sounds good. It should make it easier for the surgeon to do the job. Try to relax, it will help with the recovery... Good luck!

Oh, and by the way, Happy Birthday Jules! Sorry that you have to spend it in the operating room :-(
