Thank You

Thank you so much to everyone who has welcomed me to the group. This is the first time that I’ve reached out over the past year + that we’ve been dealing with Dan’s cancer. It feels so nice to be welcomed by people who understand our situation.

Dan’s nodules are very small, but still concerning. Both his oncologist and thoracic surgeon said he could wait a little while to have the VATS but he really wanted it done now so we know what we are dealing with…hopefully nothing, it’s possible right?

Any tips on the recovery from VATS? The doctor said it was such a small wedge that although still surgery, he should be ok. I don’t want to be underprepared for what awaits us.

Do any of you have children? We have two ages 6 and 4. They are amazing. Just wondering if anyone else is trying to balance it all?

Thanks again for sharing your stories and welcoming me.

Katie

I had VATS 3 times and 2 out of the 3 times, I was out of the hospital the next day. One time, I had to stay a few days because I had some fluid trapped in the top of the lung. Here is my detailed experience:

My son is 7 years old. I was diagnosed just after he was born...

My daughter's cancer did not go to the lungs so I am not familar with VATS but so happy Elodie could give you some information. Also my daughter was 15 when she was diagnosed and her brother was older than she was but with full time work and trying to balance that with all her appointments got overwhemling sometimes but my work was real good while we were going through it. Looking back now I don't know how I handle it but at the time it had to be done and my body just seemed to give me the extra strength I needed. All my thoughts and prayers are with you!

Hi Katie. We think about you and your family so often. My son’s girlfriend did end up leaving. They had 7 years behind them. Be strong and loving.
