I wrote an essay while I was in the hospital to make it easier for me to break the news to family and friends. I have it in PDF format. Is there anywhere that is easy to upload it to share? I'm not to computer savvy, but it is 72kb in size.
How quickly did others here find out what stage their cancer was in. I just found out I had synovial sarcoma while in the hospital a few days ago. When I went in for sugery they thought the tumor was a benign teratoma. I'm not meeting with my surgeon again until Dec. 6th, and an appointment with oncologists will be made then. Is this normal procedure in Canada? I'm not really in any hurry as I'm just so glad to be home again after an 11 night stay in the hospital. I had two thoracotomies(sp?) and came home minus half of my left lung. I'm so exhausted right now that I'm happy to have a bit of time to focus on getting strong again before dealing with what comes next.

I don't know how long it takes to get an appointment with an oncologist in Canada but it may be a good idea to schedule the appointment now to get it shortly after the surgeon's appointment... Also the oncologist should be a sarcoma specialist or at least have seen a number of cases before.
Thanks again for the advice. In BC I can't even contact an oncologist until I get a referral from the surgeon. He is amazing and patient, but his assistant would not have the time of day for me if I called to request it. I'm sure she'd say that I have to wait to talk to the doctor on Dec. 6th. I'll see what I can do on my own, or if my GP can get the ball rolling. I am also going to research if there are any synovial sarcoma specialists in the Seattle area.
